So this is where it all began

Whilst preparing for the re-launch of my new website I decided to do a clear out of my office. I came across a number of interesting newspaper articles that I had the privilage of contributing comments or tips a number of years ago.

So, I thought "why not?" Lets start the blog right here.

The first article entitled "Service with a Smile" was written by the Sunday Independent back in February 2007.

Even though it was written over 7 years ago at a time when Ireland was a very different place, the interesting thing is that I found the article to be even more poignant today.

We live in an ever changing world where technology, economies and customers trends evolve all the time. Yet the customer is the constant of any business. Their expectations, preferences and opinions may change, but they still want the same thing they wanted 7 years ago (and more) - and that's excellent customer service.

In fact, as customers we are probably more assertive and demanding today than we were back in the "celtic tiger". Without customers, no business will survive. So, we need to keep them at the forefront of our minds at all times. We need to listen to them, nurture them and delight our customers when we interact with them.

So as I reflect upon the article I firmly believe that the words are even more relevant today than they were back then.
