Sometimes in life, what can feel like a real headache can have a simple enough answer. We are so engrained in the day to day running of our business that we don’t necessarily slow down, stand back and consider what we are actually doing.

We take the hard road out of pure habit, without thinking about the consequences of our actions.

Have you ever heard the story by the Indian Priest and Psychotherapist Anthony Demello about the Industrialist and the Fisherman? 

It’s a beautiful, yet thought provoking parable that eloquently describes the importance of having enough – just like it’s title. 

I heard the tale many years ago and I have to admit, it’s one of those anecdotes that caught in my throat and stuck with me ever since. The heart of the story centres around teaching us to find a balance between money and life.

How many times have we thought about starting something and we put it off? We do everything that we don’t need to do, to avoid working on a job that requires our focus right now.

If I was a betting person, I would wager that most of us fall into this category. As a student in younger years, I was definitely one of those people who left assignments to the last minute and studying for exams until the week or night before. Needless to say, it worked out most of the time. Yet, as my career progressed, I began to realise procrastination was ruling the day.

A number of years ago I had an interesting conversation when I decided to set up a business. The person I was talking to was an older and wiser individual I greatly admired. As a mentor, I heeded any advice they offered. So, I found it intriging when they asked me the question"What was my motive for setting up the business?"

Sometimes we find ourselves in jobs we don’t like and we are eager to leave. There may be periods when we find ourselves redundant. So, we might think about starting a business purely out of panic or necessity.
